Renew a tired grass area or create a new natural lawn with turfing in Deal. Landscape Gardener of Kent considers clearance, soil condition, levels and intended use before the rolls arrive. A green finish is immediate; establishment and aftercare make it a usable lawn.

Identify why the grass is struggling: wear, shade, compaction, uneven ground or repeated waterlogging can affect whether repair is enough. Replacing the grass without addressing the cause may recreate the same problem.
A small damaged area may need targeted preparation and repair rather than full removal. A garden undergoing wider construction may need a new layout and lawn surface together.
Explain how children, pets and furniture use the area. Select the turf around those needs and the maintenance you can provide.
Clear the material that needs removing and assess the soil beneath. Address compaction, unsuitable debris and levels as part of the agreed scope.
Topsoil should have a defined purpose, quantity and depth where needed; adding it everywhere is not automatically the right solution. Prepare, firm and refine the surface appropriately before laying.
Plan the relationship to patio edges, steps and beds. Settle the supporting ground rather than use the turf to hide unevenness.
The RHS recommends mid-autumn as a good turf-laying period, with suitable opportunities through early spring where soil is not too wet or frosty. Weather and aftercare availability matter more than a calendar date alone.
Arrange turf delivery close to laying on ready ground. Delays between delivery and fitting can affect the product.
If the lawn follows walls, fencing or paving, complete disruptive construction and removal first so the new grass is not used as a material-storage or access route.
Turf supply and complete installation are different prices. Clearance, soil preparation, topsoil where needed, delivery, laying and disposal can change the fitted total.
For illustration only, £900 for a complete 30m² scope averages £30/m². This hypothetical calculation is not our installation rate. A supply-only square-metre price cannot establish that total.
Ask for the specified turf, usable area, supplied quantity and VAT treatment. Delivery charges and cutting waste should be understood.
The laying operation is only part of the programme. Access, clearance, soil work, levels, layout and delivery need scheduling before the rolls are fitted.
A prepared open area differs from a narrow-access garden requiring removal and extensive levelling. Agree the whole sequence and expected working time after assessment.
Show curves, trees, beds and the route from delivery to the lawn. Include any other work that needs finishing before installation.
Keep the turf adequately moist while roots establish, following advice for the actual product and weather. Surface colour alone does not establish whether moisture reaches the soil.
Limit foot traffic and pets until rooting is adequate. RHS guidance advises leaving newly laid turf undisturbed for several weeks; assess establishment rather than rely on a guaranteed number of days.
Agree first-mowing and ongoing care at handover. If water restrictions apply, check the current notice and any exemption with your own supplier before booking the work.
Discuss artificial grass in Deal, patios in Deal, garden walls in Deal. Agree levels, access and the order of work together where the project includes several improvements.
RHS: laying a lawn from turf explains suitable timing, preparation and establishment. Follow the advice for your supplied turf and actual conditions.
Compare the full preparation and fitting scope per square metre, including removal, product, delivery and VAT. Supply-only prices exclude much of the work.
Mid-autumn is a useful RHS recommendation, with other suitable opportunities through early spring. Avoid unsuitable wet or frosty soil and consider aftercare.
Preparation, access, shape, delivery and the team determine the programme. Agree groundwork and laying time together.
The specified product, order size and delivery determine supply cost. It is different from the fitted installation total.
Assess existing soil and levels first. Define any required improvement rather than automatically adding a layer everywhere.
Not automatically. Investigate the cause and drainage before replacing the lawn.
Keep traffic limited until rooting is adequate. Follow handover advice and actual establishment conditions.

COMPLETED PROJECT · BOROUGH GREEN
1800mm closeboard fencing, softwood sleeper planters, a 450mm buff slab patio and new turf.
This completed Borough Green project illustrates the work shown in the photographs. We can discuss the requirements of your own Deal property.
View this project →The area must be ready when fresh turf arrives, with soil work and other disruptive construction already arranged. Confirm the turf product, cutting allowance and access for handling rolls. Identify any topsoil or edging as separate elements in the specification.
Arrange who will water and protect the lawn during establishment. Check how the whole area will be reached and whether you will be away after installation. First use and mowing should follow rooting and the supplied guidance rather than a rigid date. Explain any shade, wear or drainage concerns so expectations suit the actual garden.
Use the same agreed scope when comparing proposals. Confirm the materials and work below the visible finish, together with any retained construction. Ask how exclusions or provisional work will be handled and keep the written specification with the quotation.
Photographs, dimensions and access details help define the work. They can start the discussion, with a visit or further assessment where needed. A quoted total is useful when it is clear what the finished result includes.
Agree the programme after the scope and materials are confirmed. Include delivery arrangements, protection of retained features and any periods when the area cannot be used. At handover, confirm how the completed work should be used and cared for, and retain the relevant product details.
