Brick retaining walls
Brick retaining walls define the separate garden tiers and frame the steps between them.
GARDEN PROJECT · CANTERBURY, KENT
A tiered garden combining brick retaining walls, shingle infill and riven buff slab circles, with steps connecting the levels.

THE PROJECT
This Canterbury project brings together retaining walls, shingle infill and riven buff slab circles across a tiered garden. Brick walls divide the space into distinct levels, while a flight of steps connects them along one side.
The circular buff paving forms a feature within the shingle areas. Its lighter colour contrasts with the brickwork, and the curved patterns soften the straight edges of the retaining walls. The project photographs follow the work through the wall construction and prepared levels to the finished shingle and paving circles.
Brick retaining walls define the separate garden tiers and frame the steps between them.
Shingle fills the areas inside the retaining walls and surrounds the circular paving features.
Riven buff slabs form circular paved features within the garden levels, adding a different shape and texture alongside the brick edges.
Buff paving on the steps connects the tiers, with brickwork marking the sides of the route.
