75mm thick York stone paving
The York stone has a textured surface and variations in colour from slab to slab. Different rectangular sizes create a varied paving layout, with joint lines defining the individual stones across the terrace.
PROJECT CASE STUDY · SEVENOAKS, KENT
A natural stone patio and connecting paths, with brick walls and Kentish ragstone walls bringing structure to the garden.

THE PROJECT
This Sevenoaks project combines a patio built with 75mm thick York stone, connecting garden paths, brick walls and Kentish ragstone walls. The paving extends alongside the house, while curved edges follow the shape of the surrounding garden borders.
The York stone has a textured surface and variations in colour from slab to slab. Different rectangular sizes create a varied paving layout, with joint lines defining the individual stones across the terrace.
The same stone continues from the main patio into paths beside the house. Curved cuts at the edges accommodate planting borders, and the paving follows the corners of the building to connect different parts of the outdoor space.
A curved ragstone wall runs along the patio edge, separating the paved terrace from the higher garden border. The irregular stone shapes contrast with the rectangular paving and give the wall a textured appearance.
Brick walls form another part of the scheme, visible behind the patio and alongside the garden steps. The combination of brickwork and ragstone gives different areas of the garden their own character while keeping natural materials throughout.
The broad York stone terrace provides a paved area beside the house, and the connecting paths carry its colour and texture around the building. The curved paving and ragstone wall soften the outline of the terrace, while the brick walls provide a more regular pattern in the background.
For homeowners considering a similar project, these photographs show useful details to discuss: slab size and surface texture, the shape of the patio edges, the route of connecting paths and the relationship between paving and garden walls.
