GARDEN & DRIVEWAY GUIDES
Driveway and patio projects in Kent
Plan levels, access and drainage together when a new driveway and patio form part of the same project.
Plan front and rear surfaces as one brief
A driveway and patio may be used differently, but access, levels and water management link them. Establish which surface carries vehicles, which is for seating and how people move between them. Material coordination does not mean both areas need the same construction.
Agree the installation sequence
If both areas are being renewed, decide where materials will be stored and how spoil will leave. Finishing one route too early can make later access harder or risk damage. Ask the quotation to identify protection and the handover of each phase.
Keep the specification clear
Match colours and edge details where useful, while retaining suitable materials for each purpose. Request separate scopes for the driveway and patio, plus any shared drainage or access work. This makes future repairs and optional phases easier to understand.
Permissions and boundaries
Check the requirements that apply to your property before agreeing the work. Listed buildings, protected areas, boundaries and highway access can need additional advice. General guidance is a starting point; it does not establish permission for an individual site.
Test the choice against your own garden
Take samples outside, mark out the area and consider the route between the house, storage and seating. List the care you can realistically provide. Compare complete installation scopes for the options you shortlist, including the work beneath the visible finish.
Discuss your project
Share your location, dimensions and the existing condition, together with the change you want to make. We can discuss the options and arrange a visit where needed.
